2013-2014 Rabbit Show Project Information
Any FISD student and FFA member interested in showing either Market Rabbits (Meat Pens) or a Breeding Rabbit must contact Olivia Dodson
dodsono@friscoisd.org
for additional show information. In order to show a rabbit for any Frisco ISD FFA Chapter (Frisco High, Centennial, Heritage, Lone Star, Wakeland, or Liberty), student's must have prior approval from
Olivia Dodson. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Breeding Rabbit Information
You should plan to spend $30-$75 on the rabbit itself. Make sure that the breeder you are purchasing your rabbit from knows that you are planning to show. There is a big difference between a pet rabbit and a quality show rabbit. Most breeders will work hard to help you find a show quality rabbit. For breeding rabbits, you will need to have their registration paperwork and their ear properly tattoed for identification purposes. We will be showing our rabbits at the Collin County Junior Livestock Show in January. The show is held at the Myers Event Center in McKinney, Texas. Rabbits must be purchased 6 weeks prior to December 1, 2012 in order to show (check with Mrs. Dodson first). The same rabbit maybe shown each year for breeding rabbits. Breeding rabbits do not make sale at CCJLS. Showmanship classes are available to compete in as well. I encourage you to join the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA). This is a great organization to get show information, breeder listings, research, and rabbit news.

Market Rabbit Information
Market rabbits, also known as meat pens, are shown as a set of three. This means that the student should plan on purchasing four rabbits of the same breed. The goal of a meat pen is to have three rabbits that are exactly the same. We purchase four so that you can show the best three. Meat pens can only be shown for one show season unlike breeding rabbits that can be shown for multiple seasons. Meat pens may be sold at the end of the show season for meat or fur. Rabbits will be shown at the Collin County Junior Livestock Show at Myers Park & Event Center in McKinney, TX in January. Meat pens do qualifiy to make sale. Rabbits are not kept at the Ag Barn but at the student's home.
